Ende Mai fand der interne Endbericht der Restaurator:innen über die restauratorische Untersuchung statt. Dank der langen Zeit und der dadurch möglichen detaillierten Analyse wissen wir jetzt sehr viel genauer Bescheid wie das Haus ursprünglich ausgesehen haben muss. Oberflächen, Materialen und Farben konnten weitgehend bestimmt werden. Nun werden in einem nächsten Schritt von den Restaurator:innen Probeflächen angelegt. Einerseits wird, soweit vorhanden, die historische Substanz stellenweise freigelegt und andererseits gilt es herauszufinden, wie und ob vorhandene Fehlstellen rekonstruiert werden können. Ein aufregender Prozess – finden sich doch beim Freilegen auch Spuren vergangener Tage, wie zum Beispiel in der Küche, wo die Abdrücke der „Füße“ des Herdes auf den Fliesen sichtbar wurden.
Bis zum Beginn der Sanierung/Restaurierung und damit verbundenen Entscheidungen folgen noch viele Zwischenschritte, Gespräche mit Expert:innen, eventuelle Zusatzprobeflächen oder erneute Analysen, uvm.

Test Areas for Restorers
At the end of May, the conservators presented their internal final report on the conservation study. Thanks to the extended time frame and the detailed analysis it allowed, we now have a much clearer picture of what the house must have looked like originally. Surfaces, materials, and colors have been largely identified. In the next step, the conservators will create test areas. On the one hand, the historical substance will be exposed in places where it remains intact; on the other hand, the goal is to determine how—and whether—existing missing sections can be reconstructed. It’s an exciting process—as traces of days gone by are uncovered during the exposure, such as in the kitchen, where the imprints of the stove’s “feet” became visible on the tiles.
Before the renovation/restoration begins and the associated decisions are made, there are still many intermediate steps to follow, including discussions with experts, possible additional test areas, or further analyses, and much more.
