Am 15. Juli 2025 jährt sich der Geburtstag von Josef Frank zum 140 Mal.
Auch wenn unsere Sanierungsarbeiten zu diesem besonderen Anlass noch nicht abgeschlossen sind, gibt es dennoch Grund zur Vorfreude: Rudolf Klingohr hat seine Filmbiographie zu Josef Frank fertiggestellt und der ORF strahlt sie bereits am 14. Juli um 23:15 im Kulturmontag auf ORF2 aus. Nicht nur die Villa Beer war ein Drehort für diesen Film, Rudolf Klingohr reiste nach Schweden und führte an den unterschiedlichsten Orten Gespräche mit spannenden Persönlichkeiten, die sich mit dem Leben und Werk Josef Franks auseinandersetzen. Wir freuen uns sehr auf diesen Film und hoffen, dass er dazu beiträgt, das Bewusstsein für Franks Bedeutung zu stärken.

Auch das Möbelmuseum Wien würdigt den Jubilar in einer Ausstellung mit dem Titel „Josef Frank und die Anderen“. Zu sehen sind dort vor allem die Möbelentwürfe von Frank im Kontext seiner Zeitgenoss:innen, die er maßgeblich beeinflusst hat. Ein eindrucksvoller Blick auf Franks gestalterisches Erbe.

Josef Frank Birthday
15 July 2025 marks the 140th anniversary of Josef Frank’s birth.
Even though our restoration work will not be completed in time for this special occasion, there is still reason to celebrate: Rudolf Klingohr has finished his film biography about Josef Frank, and ORF will broadcast it on 14 July at 11:15 p.m. on Kulturmontag on ORF2. Not only was Villa Beer a filming location for this film, Rudolf Klingohr also travelled to Sweden and conducted interviews in a wide variety of locations with fascinating personalities who are involved with the life and work of Josef Frank. We are very much looking forward to this film and hope that it will help to raise awareness of Frank’s importance.

The Vienna Furniture Museum is also honouring the anniversary with an exhibition entitled ‘JOSEF FRANK AND THE OTHERS. NEW FURNITURE 1920–1940’. On display are mainly Frank’s furniture designs in the context of his contemporaries, whom he significantly influenced. An impressive look at Frank’s creative legacy.
